What To Do When Your Property Has Flooded
Before you call in the flood restoration NZ specialists, there are a few things you can do to protect your property and provide us with the information we need for a fast response.
Step 1: Isolate the water supply and locate the source of the flooding.
Some floods aren’t a mystery, such as a major storm or washing machine mishap. But sometimes, the source might not be immediately obvious. Could it be a burst pipe or a sewerage backflow? If you need help identifying the source, contact a plumber or your local council water reticulation services.
We need this information as there are different water restoration processes for freshwater, rainwater, household wastewater (grey water), sewerage, and so on. (See below.)
If the flood has travelled from a level above, you may need to isolate the electrical supply as well to be safe.
Step 2: Confirm the flooding has stopped.
If water is still getting in, you’ll need to fix the cause before we can repair the damage. We can help to limit the damage by removing as much liquid as possible, but we won’t be able to begin drying the area until the water stops flowing.
Step 3: Estimate when the flood happened.
Returned from a time away to discover your home or office has flooded? The longer everything has sat in water, the more liquid will have been absorbed – and the greater the potential flood water damage. We need an idea of how much time may have elapsed since the flooding began so we can adjust our drying and cleaning strategies to suit.
Step 4: Determine the extent of the flooding.
How many rooms or floors are affected? We need to know the size of the flooded area(s) so we can send enough staff and equipment.
Step 5: Call the Auckland flood restoration specialists on 0800 332 664.
Step 6: Protect your contents from further damage
Move any wet and damaged contents out of the affected area – ideally to a room or area where we will be able to install our dehumidifiers and air blowers to dry them out.
Also, take down any photo frames, pictures, art or wall hangings and store them safely so that they don’t risk being dislodged by our drying equipment.
Step 7: Take photos for your insurance claim
Don’t forget to take plenty of photos of any flood water damage to the building, fittings and furnishings, as well as any contents that may need to be restored, repaired or replaced.
We’ll send you a unique link to upload your photos or videos directly to our reporting software, attaching them to your flood report for your insurance provider.

We May Ask Some Questions
Flooding from the rain, burst pipe, sewerage backflow? You will need to ascertain the cause. Without stopping the liquid flowing into your property, we can not restore it, and more water damage will occur.
Perhaps you need a plumber, a drain layer, or council water reticulation services such as Watercare or Hamilton council.
We can still help remove as much liquid as possible while it is coming in to mitigate damages. However, we are unable to begin drying until water has stopped flowing.
The longer the time that has elapsed, the deeper the liquid absorbs. We adjust our drying and cleaning strategies, depending on the amount of time that has passed since the flood started.
Maybe you just arrived back from holiday and walked into a flooded home, office or property? Which is not uncommon. Let us know how long you think it could have been, as we may need to take action against microbial growth.
How many rooms, floors, and the area’s size is essential to ensure we turn up with enough staff and equipment. We will remove the standing water and dry the affected space and materials.
Has the flood travelled from a level above? Perhaps the electrical supply needs to be isolated to ensure safety.
Make sure to check in surrounding rooms and cupboards to ensure your contents do not get damaged. Remove as much furniture from the flood area as possible.
Freshwater, washing machine water, rainwater, or sewerage?
Depending on the flood source, it can change the actions we take to restore your property. See below for the categories and the correct methods of remediation.
